About the Department

The Backward Class Youth Relief Committee’s, Bhiwapur Mahavidyalaya, Bhiwapur has started the Department of History at the Under Graduate level in 1990-91.

The Department of History is active not only in teaching the syllabus prescribed by the University at the Under Graduate level but also in developing the overall personality of the individuals. For this, the Department organizes several co-curriculum and extracurricular activities in which the students are encouraged to participate.

Established in 1990–91, the Department of History offers History as a major subject to students at the undergraduate level in accordance with the guidelines of National Education Policy 2020. The department is dedicated to imparting quality education while promoting critical thinking, analytical skills, and historical awareness among students.

To facilitate smooth academic transition, the department conducts bridge courses for first-year students. Remedial classes are organized for slow learners, while advanced learners are provided with additional academic guidance and enrichment activities. The department follows a flexible and student-centric approach in conducting tests, tutorials, assignments, and seminars.

The History Association of the department actively involves students in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as quiz competitions, group discussions, exhibitions, and heritage-related programmes. The department also organizes educational tours, field visits to historical sites, museums, and archives to provide experiential learning beyond the classroom.

In addition to teaching, faculty members encourage students to undertake project work, local history studies, and basic research activities. Efforts are made to develop research aptitude and historical inquiry among students. The department also promotes the use of ICT-based teaching–learning methods, including digital resources, e-books, and online archives.

The Department of History aims to contribute to the holistic development of students by nurturing values such as cultural awareness, social responsibility, and national integration. It strives to play a significant role in society by creating informed and responsible citizens through the study of history.

Departmental Library

The Department of History has its own well-maintained departmental library to support the academic needs of students. It houses a sufficient collection of textbooks, reference books, and study materials covering Ancient, Medieval, and Modern History, along with resources on historiography and local history. New books are regularly added in accordance with the academic requirements of both students and faculty.

In addition, the department provides access to digital library facilities, enabling students to explore e-books, research articles, and other online resources. This helps in enhancing their subject knowledge, supporting research activities, and promoting overall academic growth.
