Department of Mathematics

About the Department

The Department of Mathematics was established in 2012 and offers Mathematics as a major subject for the B.Sc. programme in accordance with NEP-2020 guidelines. The department is committed to developing analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills among students through student-centric and ICT-enabled teaching-learning methods.

To strengthen the academic foundation of learners, bridge courses for first-year students and remedial coaching for slow learners are conducted regularly, along with special guidance and mentoring for advanced learners. Continuous evaluation is ensured through unit tests, tutorials, assignments, seminars, and practical activities.

The department actively promotes holistic development through the Subject Literary Association, which organizes various co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including quizzes, mathematics awareness programmes, competitions, guest lectures, workshops, and educational visits. These activities help students gain exposure beyond the classroom and encourage scientific temperament and creativity.

The department is equipped with a well-furnished computer laboratory dedicated to practical sessions and mathematical computing using software such as SageMath, Maxima, GeoGebra, MATLAB, Mathematica, Scilab, and Python. This facilitates experiential learning and bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications. The department also possesses a well-stocked departmental library to support academic and research activities.

Faculty members are actively involved in research and have published research papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals as well as authored academic books. With a tradition of consistent academic performance, innovative teaching practices, and a strong commitment to quality education, the Department of Mathematics strives to contribute meaningfully to societal development through teaching, research, and extension activities.

Departmental Library

The Department of Mathematics has a well-maintained departmental library for students, containing a rich collection of textbooks, reference books, competitive examination materials, journals, and other study resources related to the curriculum. New books and learning resources are added regularly according to academic requirements and syllabus updates.

Students are also provided access to digital learning resources, including e-books, research articles, online journals, and educational platforms, which enhance independent learning and research aptitude. The departmental library serves as an important academic support system for students and encourages reading habits, self-study, and continuous learning.
